Gas Safety Module for powerTOWN
Combination Utilities Can Expand powerTOWNs Message With Add-On Natural Gas / Propane Safety Module
Combination utilities which already own or are contemplating the purchase of a powerTOWN electrical safety model can expand its effectiveness with an add-on Gas Safety Module.
The module consists of two different panels and accessories which can be placed on the powerTOWN table top and are used to demonstrate various safety rules to follow when using natural gas or propane appliances and distribution systems. Additionally, cautions against excavating near buried gas lines can be demonstrated.
One panel shows a pumping/ pressurization station surrounded by a fence and warning signs.
The second panel shows the interior of a house. Rooms shown are a living room with an unvented space heater, a kitchen with a gas range and a gas water heater located in a garage. This panel allows a presenter to review rules for locating flammable materials away from flames and hot surfaces. Other cautions that can be demonstrated are a child playing near a stove and heating a room with an oven.
Smaller accessories include electric and natural gas meters, a propane tank and shutoff valves.
A section of plastic pipe can be attached to the below grade cutout of Call Before You Dig portion of the powerTOWN model. The blade of the models backhoe can be lowered to show contact with the buried gas line. Then, compressed air is allowed to escape through a hole in the gas line creating an audible hiss. Compressed air is supplied by an aerosol can of compressed air. Replacements can be purchased at office supply stores.
